    When you arrive at your destination, do not just immediately shut off the engine. Sit there and allow the engine to run for a couple of minutes to allow oil to circulate to the turbo to cool it off some.

    Are premium fuels worth it? I have a 335d and have just started filling it up with Esso Supreme Diesel. It's 14p a litre more expensive so quickly adds up. Great videos by the way. Big fan..

    • @torquecars
      @torquecars День тому

      With premium fuels it depends on the car really. If you get more power and see better MPG then in my book it is worth it. Both my diesel and A3 1.4T petrol show better economy and feel more lively with premium fuels. Over the long term injectors and DPF's etc stay cleaner for longer and this helps prolong the life of the car. Run a few tanks of either and compare your MPG to decide and if you notice the car makes better power then it is a plus. From experience you should see an improvement all round on the 335d. Thanks for your kind words of encouragement. I just do this for fun and it's great to know it helps out a few people along the way.

    Golf V 1.9 TDI 210k+ Which oil would you recomend? Thanks

    • @torquecars
      @torquecars 8 годин тому

      The recommendation is VW504 or 507 spec oil. Is this the 105hp version? 5w30 would be my preferred option but I know some people are using 5w40 on these in some areas but I would only do this if the 5w30 is burning off or levels are dropping. Make sure it is VW 504 spec though at a minimum. A brand I have used and can vouch for is the Fuchs TITAN GT1 PRO C-3 XTL 5W-30 Fully Synthetic Engine Oil There are also good options from Mobil the 1 ESP 5w-30 and Castrol EDGE 5W-30 LL

    Most of today’s turbos are designed to run on 87 octane fuel and top tier gasoline is common in the U.S. Top tier fuels contain detergents and additives to keep the fuel system clean and carbon deposits to a minimum. All the major oil companies produce and sell top tier fuel.

    Turbo , direct injection. Direct drive and electronic control screen makes short term affair. Built in obsolescence. None of these cars will live into old age. After the warranty any time after is based on borrowed time. It is not if but when. You think car repairs are expensive you have seen nothing. One hundred thousand miles will be a miracle.

    I recently (May 28, 2024) purchased a 1 owner, 2009 Chrysler 300C Heritage Edition 5.7L Hemi with only 53K on the odometer. I decided to install a J&L OSC oil catch can just a couple weeks ago, I haven't checked the level just yet, I don't have very many miles on it. The install was very quick and easy. It came with the hoses pre attached and had the necessary hardware as well, it utilized an existing tapped hole in the front of the engine block, and it actually tucks away under the engine cover, I can't even see it when the cover is on.

    UK NI Audi A3 1.9tdi sport 2006 112K miles; last ten years changed LL oil every year before winter always 5W30 LL; before that it was changed only every 2 years (unfortunately?) with and by LL spec; always VAG 507 spec. Have used Archoil oil additives (rightly or wrongly!?) over the last 8 years; AR9100 first and then AR9200 v2. Only loses (not necessarily 'burns'?) oil noticeably with excessive speeds over long distances e.g. 170 mile trips x 2. So should I change from LL and/or 5W30 at this and at increasing mileage!? (I still think the engine will outlast the bodywork and floor by far!!)

Fixed that but now thinking about more frequent servicing on the oil side of things. Usually annual or 10k max. Any suggestions on better quality oils for higher mileage engine such as mine. To not when the injector came out the copper sealing washers was disintegrated so I expect that has gone through the engine and some diesel has washed down the bores Would a flushing agent be advisable too?? Thanks

    • @torquecars
      @torquecars 4 дні тому

      You should be ok, because wear on the oil happens when the engine is used and particularly if it gets used on mainly short runs or on cold engines. Time is not really a factor in oil changes in my book unless you are talking about a very long time. If you've done 200x5km journeys I'd consider an oil change for example.

    If you have an engine that is DI only and/or turbo charged, a catch can is probably a good idea. But if your engine has port injection or even if it's port and direct, you're wasting your money. The detergents in the gasoline clean the intake valves. Just change your oil regularly and your engine will be just fine for several hundred thousand miles

    I understand that certain engines that utilize a manufactures recommended viscosity can somewhat malfunction if one utilizes a heavier weight oil when regulating variable valve timing, etc. above the manufactures viscosity recommendations. Yes there is a very small to minute loss of miles per gallon with thicker oil but, using a thicker oil may offset those functions of the modern engine dependent on a certain oil viscosity. Older engines not so much, more modern engines, your opinion. Do you feel that going from a 0-20 to a 5-30 viscosity may or may not affect the engine, or going to an even higher viscosity may indeed potentially cause problems. Fact or myth in your opinion? I am in Southern California. It is hot at this time of year in June.
